Career Passport

Introduction

This webpage outlines how you can earn the privilege to develop and use the Career Passport. The credentials and certificates developed for this Passport are a cooperative effort of Career Development Center, Eau Claire County Department of Human Services, Literacy Volunteers of America - Chippewa Valley, and Chippewa Valley Technical College. This is a process whereby we will provide training, record your skills and abilities, and help you use this information to develop a resume and find a job suited for your skills.

What is it?

The Career Passport is a document certifying that you have met specific academic and workplace competencies important for employment. The portfolio will contain a variety of documents such as:

  • Letter from Dean of Instructional Delivery at Chippewa Valley Technical College, attesting to the accuracy of the documents
  • Resume - several copies will be included for distribution to prospective employers
  • Achievement Credentials from Chippewa Valley Technical College certifying competency in specific technical/job-related areas and computer skills
  • Certificates from Career Development Center certifying competency in employability and self-sufficiency skills
  • Letters of recommendation from past employers and/or instructors
  • Transcripts, certificates and diplomas

In addition, we guarantee to our participants the opportunity to retrain and/or reinforce the skills credentialed in the Passport program if, within six months, the participant feels or demonstrates the need for improvement in these areas.

What's in it for me?

Individuals who participate in the Career Passport will have a personalized document highlighting and certifying skills for the workplace. Only the skills demonstrated will be certified. In addition, individuals will be matched with a mentor and will receive special attention from the Cosmetology Department at CVTC. The program will also help-

  • Increase self-awareness and self-esteem through self-evaluation
  • Increase awareness of the responsibility for one's own career planning
  • Increase recognition of marketable skills
  • Understand the job-seeking process
  • Improve self-marketing to business and industry
  • Gain confidence in interviewing with employers
  • Increase chances for successful employment

Many business and industries in the Chippewa Valley are aware of this program and know that the individual presenting the Passport has credentialed employability and technical/job-related skills. The certificates and credentials will help the employer match the right person to the right job
